Research and Development Activities : The M.Sc. degree started in July 1996. The department initiated M.Phil. programme from January, 1999. The M.Phil. programme also has different special courses in order to cater to the needs of diverse interest of the students. The department has a botanical garden founded by MOEF, Govt. of India, and a Piscicultural pond funded by the University. The department implements an ICAR - NTP (World Bank aided) project on "Germplasm Inventory & Gene Banking of Freshwater Fishes", and another project on Bio-energy funded by the Ministry of Renewable Resources, Govt. of India.
