Admission criteria and eligibility :

General criteria for admission to PG courses :

Candidates who have passed Three Year Degree Courses (TDC) (10+2+3) in a subject shall be eligible for admission to the four semester postgraduate course in the respective subject. Preference shall be given to the students having Major/Honours in the relevant subject. However, subject to availability, upto ten percent of the seats may be filled up with students from other related subjects. Students who have secured 40% and above marks in the Major/Honours or 45% and above marks in the pass course in the relevant subject are only eligible to apply for admission to Post Graduate Course in that subject. However, some departments may have special prerequisites, as are given in the prospectus along with the admission form to determine eligibility of candidates for admission to those courses. Only those candidates who have passed HSSLC or equivalent examinations (10+2) in the respective streams shall be eligible for admission to five year integrated PG Courses.

Candidates who have appeared at the TDC Part III examination of Assam University or of other universities / institutes and HSSLC examinations conducted by council for Higher Secondary Education, Assam, or it's equivalent examination in this year are also eligible to apply for admission in respective courses. However, their eventual admission, on being qualified in admission test, shall be provisional and they must have to submit their result in the qualifying examination latest by September 30, 2001 failing which their provisional admission shall be treated as cancelled automatically.

For SC/ST candidates upto 5% marks relaxation is allowed. Selection of candidates for admission will be on the basis of merit in qualifying examination and performance in the admission test and interviews and / or group discussion wherever stipulated.

ALL CANDIDATES ARE ADVISED TO PROCURE RELEVANT PROSPECTUS OF STUDIES WHEN THE SAME IS AVAILABLE IN THE UNIVERSITY.

Last date of submission of forms : 16th June (for integrated courses); 25th June (for PG courses).

Date of admission test/ GD/Interview: 3rd July 2001 to 11th July 2001.

Eligibility criteria for admission to M.Phil programme :

Candidate securing not less than 55% marks in the Master's examination of Assam University or any recognised university in the relevant subject shall be eligible for admission to the M.Phil programme. Candidate has to appear for admission test and interview, which shall be organised by the respective school.

Candidates who have been awarded Fellowship based on a common examination conducted by the UGC, CSIR or such other body as may be approved by the university may be admitted to the M.Phil programme directly.

Eligibility criteria for Ph.D. programme :

A candidate who has successfully completed M.Phil in the subject in which the candidate proposes to pursue the course of research, or in an allied subject , shall be eligible for the Ph.D. programme.

Candidates belonging to the following categories may be considered eligible to be registered for Ph.D.

  • Students securing "A" grade or 60% and above marks in atleast three of the four courses in the M.Phil programme of the University.
  • Recognised teachers of colleges affiliated to this university.
  • Persons who have taken M.Phil. Degree from another University recognised by this University and has secured at least "B" grade with a point average of 4.00 (or 555marlks) in the M.Phil examination.
  • Persons who have obtained M.Phil Degree from Assam University and are employed as a teacher or as a researcher in a Research Institute, provided that the condition of residence guide etc. will be the same as for teachers of affiliated colleges of Assam University and for researchers in recognised Research institutions within territorial jurisdiction of Assam University.
  • Persons having master Degree in the relevant or working in National or state-level research organisation and stationed within the jurisdiction of Assam University with at least five years of experience and having research publications to their credit.
  • Persons having Master Degree in the relevant or applied subject and having at least seven years experience of administration management and specialized knowledge in the proposed field or research papers to their credit, to the satisfaction of the University Department concerned.
