OBJECTIVES

"A University, in true sense, stands for humanism, for tolerance, for reason, for the adventure of ideas, for the search of truth" says Jawaharlal Nehru, the architect of modern India. Assam University accepts the above objective in the letter and spirit as a guiding force. Hitherto, section 4 of the Assam University Act 1989 has clearly delineated its objectives as :

  To disseminate knowledge by providing instructional facilities in such branches of learning as it deem fit and by the example of its corporate life;

  To make provisions for integrated courses in humanities, natural and physical sciences and social sciences in the educational programmes of the University;

  To take appropriate measures for promoting interdisciplinary studies and research in the university;

  To educate and train manpower for development of the state of Assam;

  To provide special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people of the state, their intellectual, academic and cultural development.
